CCI Celebrates 40 Years of Providing Solutions in Severe Service
2001 marked a landmark year in CCI history, establishing 40 years of specialization in severe service control valve solutions for the power industry, oil and gas production, pulp and paper industries, and chemical and petrochemical production and processing.
CCI, or Control Components Inc., was founded in 1961 by Richard Self, who created the company when he saw a need for valves that could handle very high-pressure liquid hydrogen and oxygen. It was during his research that the right angle tortuous flow path of the CCI DRAG® valve trim was conceived. This “great leap forward” in valve design was recognized by the industry and in the 1980s, the Instrument Society of America recognized Self for his contribution to the advancement of flow control technology.
In 1971, Self sold CCI to the Babcock and Wilcox Company because of the need to finance the rapidly growing business. Later in 1981, CCI was acquired by British-based IMI, who also saw the growth potential of DRAG® in the industry. It was due to the company’s success in the 80s and 90s that the Thermtec division of the Sulzer Company was acquired in 1997, and more recently the acquisition of BTG Valves in 2001. These synergies ensure CCI’s commitment to meet its customers’ needs by offering quality products, backed by superior service.

In the years since it designed, built and patented the first DRAG® valve, CCI has evolved with the valve industry in order to remain the world’s leading manufacturer and supplier of severe service control valve solutions. CCI will always dedicate itself to meeting its customer’s service and control valve needs through excellence of products and services provided by a team of highly motivated employees.
