Take a DRAG® Valve and You’ll Feel Better Tomorrow

The Eastex Cogen in Longview Texas has completed its’ test trials and will begin providing steam to Eastman Chemicals after the first of the year. Unfortunately, the plant was unable to finish these test trials until a faulty Copes control valve, used for steam venting, was retrofitted with DRAG® trim technology.

Parsons Engineering contacted CCI when the Copes valve failed to perform to specification. The valve was causing extreme vibrations, high noise, and providing poor control. Parsons decided the best option would be retrofit, since it would provide the benefit of DRAG® technology without the costly burden of valve replacement and pipe modifications. CCI was able to design and build retrofit trim to be installed in the 18-in. (500-mm) Copes valve in less than four weeks. Only a total of five weeks passed from conception of the project to CCI’s Field Service commissioning of the valve in the field. The new DRAG® trim has provided smooth operation with considerably less noise and destructive vibration.

This is a great example of how business partnerships combined with CCI’s ability to design and execute a fast track project can save time and money.
