Don’t Cry for this Valve Argentina: Upgrade Set for Facility’s Expansion

Gas to flare contains strict demands for the oil and gas facilities that depend on the application to operate. These valves come into use in emergency situations where high-pressure gas either in process vessels or in pipelines need to be vented. For these reasons, a valve in this application needs to respond consistently, not only in urgent cases, but in normal ones as well.

Recently Total Austral required an upgrade for a gas to flare valve at their Aguada Pichana site in Neuquén, a province in Argentina . The project consists in the de-bottlenecking of the existing facilities so that it expands from a 8MMm3/d dew point plant to 11.5 SMMm3/D. Additionally, the valve must be equipped to handle an additional extension of the plant to 13.5 MMSm6/d at medium pressure. This growth necessitates a change in flow conditions that is prompting Total Austral to purchase a larger valve. The gas to flare application calls for a valve that has tight shutoff, velocity control, and reliability features, all of which are incorporated in DRAG® advanced technology. Encouraged by the satisfactory performance of a DRAG® 100D valve already installed, the company chose to use another of CCI’s unique multistage pressure reducing designs. With its many years of service, the CCI DRAG® valve has demonstrated to users that it is the intelligent choice for increased plant production through highly reliable valve performance in oil and gas applications.
