Copenhagen Energy Replaces Troublesome Feedwater Regulator

A 12-inch (310-millimeter) special-design DRAG® valve now has been installed by Copenhagen Energy at their base-loaded Amagervaerket Power Plant. The existing valve of another manufacturer had limited rangeability, suffered constant leakage problems, and required spare parts which were increasingly difficult to come by.

Excellent experience with CCI severe-service DRAG® technology at a sister plant was a decisive factor in this replacement FWR valve selection.

With over 200:1 rangeability, this new valve is designed for 215 kilograms/second (approx. 750gpm), a design pressure of 5000 psig (350BARG) with an operating differential pressure of 2750 psi (189 BAR) at 275 C (525 F).

Special requirements included the meeting of block-valve MSS SP-61 specifications for shutoff tightness, adherence to existing piping in-line face-to-face dimensions through a “Y” pattern arrangement, and the need to install the valve and pneumatic actuator horizontally to stay within the limited available space.
