McIntosh Power Plant Opts for CCI Turbine Bypass System

The City of Lakeland, Florida has purchased a complete advanced technology HP/IP/LP turbine bypass system for the new 220 MW combined-cycle unit under construction at their McIntosh Power Plant. The choice of CCI to provide this system is based on the good experience Siemens-Westinghouse has had with CCI in the past in designing and building similar power generation units both in the US and abroad.

The HP turbine bypass system is designed for 550,000 pounds/hour (250,000 kilograms/hour) at an inlet pressure of 2050 psiG (141 barG) and 1080 F (582 C).

Noise in these turbine bypass valves was of particular concern. CCI’s guarantee of less than 85 dBA at 3 feet (1 meter) was an important factor. This relatively low noise level is achieved by close control of kinetic energy dissipation through multiple stages of pressure reduction.
