Sithe Chooses Proven Experience for its New Fore River Turbine Bypass System

The 800 MW combined-cycle power generation unit that Sithe New England Power Partners, LLC is constructing at their new Fore River plant will incorporate a turbine bypass system that duplicates those purchased last year for their new 1600 MW Mystic plant.

This new Sithe project involves duplicate HP, IP, and LP turbine bypass valves, associated desuperheaters, spraywater, control valves, and other DRAG® velocity control and system components.

The 12 × 18-inch (300 × 450-millimeter) HP turbine bypass valves are designed for flows as high as 681,000 pounds/hour (309,000 kilograms/hour) with inlet pressures up to 2400 psia (166 barA) and DPs ranging to 2100 psi (145 bar).
