Turbine Bypass Systems for New SCE&G Power Plant in South Carolina

South Carolina Electric & Gas has ordered HP and IP turbine bypass systems for its two-unit, 500 MW, Urqhart combined-cycle power plant in Beach Island; South Carolina. Duke/Fluor Daniel is the E & C.

The 8-inch (200-millimeter) HP turbine-bypass DRAG® valves are designed for maximum flows of 479,000 pounds/hour (218 meters/hour) at an inlet pressure of 1400 psia (97 barG) and a DP of 925 psi (64 bar) at 1000 F (537 C).

The 18-inch (450-millimeter) IP turbine bypass valves handle pressure differentials as high as 450 psi (31 bar) and are being furnished with 3-inch (75-millimeter) two-stage spraywater valves.

All valves — bypass as well as spraywater — will be operated by standard pneumatic actuators.
