Louisville Finds the Right Angle

At the Louisville Gas and Electric power plant in Weldon, North Carolina, a globe valve that served as an emergency drum drain was leaking badly when in the closed condition. Knowing that even a minute leak can quickly grow into one that can eventually affect a valve’s internal parts’ performance, Louisville Gas & Electric gave CCI the opportunity to provide them with a replacement emergency drain designed to provide the complete solution in controlling the high velocities that produce valve damage, impairing plant efficiency. By providing a 2-in. x 2-in. (50-mm x 50-mm) 100D angle valve, Louisville Gas & Electric is preventing some of the common causes of valve failure, such as seat leakage. With a DRAG® disk stack design, the flow of velocity is controlled through the use of tortuous right angle turns. Design features also include graphoil seals that were used for the high temperature application.
