CCI Sweden Designs World's Largest Steam Conditioning Valve for Al Hidd 2

CCI Sweden recently had the challenge to design and manufacture the world’s largest steam conditioning valve regarding capacity for the Al Hidd 2 power and desalination cogeneration plant.

Downstream flow and pressure for the HP/MP to process system are 1330t/h and 41 psi (2.8 bar) delivered a few degrees above saturation.

The project also consisted of an HP/LP turbine bypass system. The steam conditioning valves are a type VLB with an inlet design pressure of 121 psia (1755 bara) at design temperatures as high as 1060 F (573 C). The valve is measured at an estimated 16 feet (5 meters).

CCI Sweden’s VLB valve is designed for continuous operation to keep the steam in balance with load requirements and startup, and also handles abnormal conditions such as load rejection. This allows for the system to return to normal operation with minimum delay.
